NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL WRAP-UP
Here are a few items the council considered Tuesday.
CHILDREN’S GARDEN
The council unanimously voted to spend a $139,530 donation from the Friends of the Newport Beach Library to create a children’s garden and outdoor reading area at the main library on Avocado Avenue. The garden was designed by Newport-based Front Porch Creations, which will also build it.
The “sun and sea discovery garden” will feature a fountain and a maze, and the library will offer outdoor story times there.
WHAT IT MEANS
The children’s garden will be built at the main library over the next three months.
HARBOR DEBRIS
The council renewed an agreement with the county under which Newport cleans up trash and debris from the city’s harbor and the county helps pay for the work. Newport and Orange County have worked together on trash clean-up since the 1970s.
WHAT IT MEANS
The long-standing agreement will continue for another five years.
