HAROLD A. SCHRUPP

Harold A. Schrupp, an Orange Coast College counselor and Costa Mesa resident for the last 41 years, died of a stroke Monday. He was 77.

A native of Seattle, Schrupp was a four-year football letterman at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, where he played offensive end and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. The recipient of a National Science Foundation Fellowship, he went on to complete a master’s degree in biology at Oregon State University, and a doctorate in higher education at UCLA. He also earned a law degree from Western State University Law School.

He joined Orange Coast College’s faculty in the fall of 1965, hired as a counselor and psychology instructor. He later served as a counselor for disabled students and work-experience students and helped to initiate the college’s first computerized counseling system. He served as assistant chair of the Counseling Division.

A member of OCC’s Academic Senate, Schrupp also served on the executive board of the March of Dimes.

Schrupp is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who was a student with him at Pacific Lutheran University; a daughter, Rebecca; a son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Renee, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 2850 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.
