Motorcyclist injured in collision on Harbor
A Costa Mesa man was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after he allegedly ran a red light on his motorcycle about 3 p.m., causing a collision at Harbor Boulevard and South Coast Drive, police said.
The man, who police said was in his early-50s, was driving northbound on Harbor Boulevard when he collided with a Mustang being driven by a Westminster woman westbound on South Coast Drive, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Loren Wyrick said.
The Jaws of Life were used to get the woman out of her vehicle, which was damaged by the man’s heavy touring motorcycle, Wyrick said. Police did not know the extent of her injuries, but she was conscious at the scene and complaining of pain, Wyrick said. Both of the injured were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
“[Paramedics] were guarded with her,” he said. “It’s difficult to assess internal injuries until you get to hospital but she had injuries causing her pain at the time and they took a lot of care to get to the hospital.”
Police did not identify either driver pending notification of family members.
