Anteaters name new golf coach

Former University of Hawaii assistant coach Julie Brooks has been named UC Irvine women’s golf coach, the school announced Thursday.

Brooks was an assistant at the University of Hawaii since 2004 and was a volunteer assistant coach at Cal from 2000-02.

Brooks played golf at the University of Arizona from 1986 to 1988 and turned professional in 1989, competing on the Futures Golf Tour from 1989 through 1992.

Brooks also has been a professional at the Oahu Country Club, Burning Tree Country Club and Elmwood Country Club and is a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. teaching division.

Brooks replaces Kelly Crawford, who left to take over the program at Iowa. UCI won three Big West Conference championships in five seasons under Crawford, the program’s inaugural coach.
