    NEWPORT BEACH TURNS 100

    Come celebrate the Newport Beach centennial with Mayor Don Webb, the city council of Newport Beach and special guests as they blow out 100 candles on the city’s giant birthday cake on the front lawn of City Hall. Free and open to the public.

    FESTIVAL OF CHILDREN BEGINS

    The Festival of Children Foundation celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, and its signature event, the Festival of Children, opens today at South Coast Plaza. The festival runs throughout the month of September, and more than 50 children’s charities will be showcased. The Foundation’s purpose is to connect children, charities and the community, and over 100 activities, workshops and performances will be offered free to the public. Highlights this year include Wyland, the ocean artist, painting a mural, actress Jane Seymour meeting and greeting visitors, small paul by paul frank industries hosting a T-shirt decorating event, and a special award presentation by Kathie Lee Gifford.     The second annual College Colors Day hopes to promote college spirit and traditions by encouraging fans, alumni and current students to wear the colors of their favorite college all day. For more information, visit www.collegecolorsday.com.
