Tropical Penguins net 7 pucks in win over Sykos

The Tropical Penguins outscored the Surf City Sykos, 5-2, over the final two quarters to pull away to a 7-3 victory in Wales Division play at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Bryan Perez and Jeff Perez led the Tropical Penguins in scoring with two goals apiece. Single goals were scored by Kevin Kurz, Dylan Locke and Jeremy McHenry.

Garrick Langer led the team in assists with two. Locke, McHenry, Joshua Fowler, Jeff Perez and goalie Kenneth Nguyen, who finished with eight saves, had assists.

The Sykos scoring included goals from Alec Roberson, J.J. Millikan and Trevor Millikan. Alex McCabe handed out two assists and Bradley Markle had one assist.

Jason Ferrall recorded 27 saves.

In other Wales Division action:

Bullfrogs 6, Fighting Saints 5

Jason Callanan posted three goals as the Bullfrogs survived a tight match with the Fighting Saints.

Matthew Williams, Luis Concepcion and Craig Wellander also scored goals and Concepcion finished with a pair of assists. Wellander, Williams and Joshua Ane also had assists.

Tyler Allen fended off 19 shot attempts.

Steven Strother opened the scoring for the Fighting Saints and Garrett Ono closed it, their goals sandwiching three straight goals by Jordan Matsunaga.

Strother and Ono also assisted on the scoring with two and one assists, respectively.

William Baltazar finished with 13 saves.

Thrashers 11, Surf City Sykos 5

The Thrashers jumped out to a 7-1 lead through two quarters and went on to defeat the Sykos.

Michael Thomas posted a match-best five goals and also collected four assists for the Thrashers. Jacob Sabraw and Phillip Berman each scored twice and Gregory Hancock scored once.

Sabraw and Hancock each had two assists, Ellis Weaver had an assist and Jonathan Cao recorded 18 saves.

Alex McCabe and J.J. Millikan each scored twice to lead the Sykos. Alec Roberson scored once and Jason Ferrall finished with nine saves.
