FESTIVALS’ CLOSING WEEKEND

  • The Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, closes tonight, Sept. 1, with an acoustic rock concert by Yvonne Perea, who describes her music as “White Girl Blues,” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Complimentary art tours will be led at 2 and 4 p.m. A free printmaking workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the print demo booth, and wire sculpture is taught from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All workshops are free with paid admission.

    Artists may also demonstrate their art medium at the workshop kiosk, from 6 to 8 p.m.

  • Art-A-Fair, 777 Laguna Canyon Road, which closes Monday, Sept. 4, will feature upbeat jazz and vocal group Upstream on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., followed by contemporary artists Timbreline from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • The fair will be free on Saturday and Sunday to all visitors, and all attendees over the weekend will receive a free 40th anniversary fan until supplies run out.

    On Sunday, the fair will host classic Motown and pop group Redd Street from 2:30 to 6 p.m.

    Workshops will be held throughout the weekend, from oil pastels on Friday to comic drawing on Saturday to watercolors on Sunday. Children’s workshops run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; the adult section is from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • The Sawdust Art Festival, 935 Laguna Canyon Road, which runs through Sept. 3, will offer a wide variety of entertainment throughout the weekend. Friday through Sunday, the Scarlet Sisters circus theater will rove through the festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Balloon artists the Balloon Divas will rove from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The festival season’s final “Art on Stage” game show will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the main deck, as guests compete for the grand prize. More than 100 teams from throughout the country have played this season.

    The “Huskies” from Carlisle, Mass., hold the current high score at 19 tiles; the entire puzzle numbers 24 tiles. The season’s best team will be awarded an Arbonne Sun Care package or a $50 gift certificate from Pomodoro Restaurant.

    On Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., acoustic pop artist Rob Eller will perform at the tavern and guitarist/vocalist Harold Payne will perform at the grill. From noon to 4:30 p.m., Soundbytes will perform ‘40s — ‘80s cover tunes on the main deck, followed by singer/songwriter Darryl Morris at the tavern and contemporary artist Kerry Getz at the grill from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The Missiles of October will perform rock music from 5:30 to 9:45 p.m. on the main deck.

    On Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., folk rock artist Brooke Ramel will perform at the tavern and folk/jazz artist Mark Turnbull will perform at the grill. From noon to 4:30 p.m., funky dance group The Dukes of Ted will be at the main deck, and a strolling silent vaudevillian, Abbit the Average, will rove the grounds from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

    That night from 5 to 9:30, Jason Feddy will perform acoustic rock at the tavern, and Will Brady will sing the blues at the grill. Savor, a tribute to Santana, will be at the main deck from 5:30 to 9:45 p.m.

    On Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mary Coppin will perform contemporary pop at the tavern while Lola Clark performs acoustic folk and pop at the grill. From noon to 4:30, Beatles tribute band The Neat will be at the main deck. That evening from 5 to 9:30 p.m., KGB Kathryn Grimm will perform jazz and blues at the tavern, and an artist video will show at the grill. World Anthem will close out the night with reggae from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the main deck.

    The festival features an interactive ceramics booth, where visitors can make their own pot on a wheel with one-on-one instruction for free. The Sawdust Studio also offers complimentary printmaking classes daily. Both classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Different children’s projects are also offered daily, from friendship bracelets to tie dye and sand art.

    There will also be glass-blowing demonstrations throughout the day, and many exhibitors will be working on their art in their booths.
