In every James Bond movie, it seems that the focus is all on the cars — the fastest, most gadget-filled, shiniest wheels the movie producers can find. But in “Casino Royale,” the latest Bond flick, it’s all about the boat. And that boat — a 2006 Sunseeker 38 XS Sport — is on display through Sunday at the 28th annual Lido Yacht Expo.

Bond’s flashy ride is one of two celebrity boats making an appearance at this year’s yacht expo. The Bond boat is joined by a Mas 28 Elegance, a speedboat and regular star on the hit TV series “CSI: Miami.” Elegance, modeled after an Italian anti-submarine torpedo boat, was being filmed for an upcoming episode Friday and was scheduled to be on view Friday through the weekend, the expo’s public relations director Don Franken said.

Show visitors who stop by the 38-foot Sunseeker will be treated to a close-up of one of only five boats of its kind ever made. Three of those five were used in the making of “Casino Royale,” said Joel Romero, vice president of California Coast Yachts, a Sunseeker distributor.

“The people from the movie wanted to have some kind of radical, cool-looking boat,” Romero said.

And cool it is. The black-and-silver boat looks like a bullet in the water, and it comes with the speed to match. It can go up to 80 mph and according to Romero, it’s still a smooth ride. The boat’s three-step hull allows the boat to get air without jolting passengers, Romero said.

“It is made basically to skip through the water,” Romero said. “It’s ocean-going, and it handles the rough waters unbelievably well.”

But for the rich and famous — the only people who can afford this half-a-million-dollar boat — the Sunseeker might serve as an accessory boat to a larger vessel, Romero said.

Franken said high-profile vessels such as the Bond boat and the “CSI: Miami” boat help to draw in boat show visitors.

“It’s like any event, you need celebs,” Franken said. “We have our boating goddesses here.”

Despite the recognized movie star boats, the show is also filled with plenty of other boats that have just as much Hollywood appeal. The 80-foot Custom Novatee CW is one of those. Boasting five staterooms with glistening wood and three types of granite, the black-hulled Novatee is a looker.

Despite the nearly $2.5-million price tag, yacht broker Jacques Bor, with Ensign International Yacht Brokerage, said this yacht is at the lower end of the luxury yacht scene.
