    TRANSITION SUPPORT GROUP

    A support group for people struggling with issues of loneliness, relationship, grief and health problems meets from 1 to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.

    WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS

    This support group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday.

    DIABETES DISCUSSION

    A discussion group that provides support for diabetics and their caregivers meets at 10 a.m. every Friday. The group focuses on dietary concerns as well as complications such as neuropathy, eye problems and emotional barriers common among those with the disease.

    BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC

    A blood pressure clinic is held from 9 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday. No appointment is necessary.

    FITNESS CLASS

    A Functional Senior fitness class, designed to enhance strength, flexibility and posture, is from 1 to 2 p.m. every Wednesday.

    AEROBICS

    Low impact aerobics, designed to fit the personal health and fitness needs of older adults, is from 1 to 2 p.m. every Monday and Friday.

    OASIS SENIOR CENTERThe Oasis Senior Center is at 800 Marguerite Ave., Corona del Mar, (949) 644-3244.

    TELEPHONE REASSURANCE

    Telephone reassurance is available for seniors with a limited local support system that would benefit from daily telephone contact.

    TRANSPORTATION

    Transportation services are offered to take members to appointments, grocery shopping, and to the center. Call to make an appointment.

    VISION SCREENINGS

    Visual aid screenings with a Braille Institute representative is offered for people with limited vision. Call to make an appointment.

    BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS

    Blood pressure screenings are conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month in room 3.

    VISION SEMINARS

    The Braille Institute offers free seminars to help those with limited vision live more independently. Held on the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in room 4.

    HEALTHCARE DIRECTIVES

    Advance healthcare directives are available for $3 each. Call to make an appointment.

    PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE

    Preventive healthcare services are offered by a nurse from the Orange County Health Department on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Call to make an appointment.

    INSURANCE QUESTIONS

    The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program offers a counselor to assist with questions about Medicare, HMOs and supplemental and long-term care insurance. Call to make an appointment.

    ART APPRECIATION

    An art appreciation class offered at Oasis focuses on California Impressionism that captures the color and drama of the unique Southern California landscape. This free class will include trips to local museums.

    CHAIR EXERCISE

    Chair exercise is offered Mondays. This class is deigned to increase muscular strength and to improve posture and mobility.

    COMPUTER CLASSES

    Weekly computer classes include Internet, Windows, Print Shop, solutions for viruses and more.

    CRIBBAGE

    A cribbage group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost: $2.

    DRAMA WORKSHOP

    A drama workshop for actors and aspiring actors meets every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. Practice, learn and have fun.

    LEARN ITALIAN

    Beginning Italian classes are now offered. Learn to read and speak this beautiful language in no time.

    LONGEVITY STICK

    Longevity stick class meets every Tuesday morning at 9:30. This easy-to-learn form of exercise is similar to t’ai chi; its gentle movements promote physical fitness and mental relaxation.

    T’AI CHI

    A t’ai chi class is now offered every Friday morning from 10 to 11. This free class offers better balance and improved flexibility of joints and muscles.

    SHANGHAI

    A Shanghai card game, similar to Rummy, is played every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

    BRIDGE

    Duplicate bridge is played every Sunday. New players are always welcome. Registration is at 12:15 p.m. and the game starts at 12:30 p.m.

    OTHERBEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

    Jewish Family Service offers ongoing bereavement support groups for adults at all stages of the grief process. Group members share experiences, hear how others deal with grief, receive support and learn ways to cope with sadness and loss(714) 445-4950.
