Stabbed woman lived in Huntington Beach

The woman who was stabbed and whose body was found in Newport Harbor on Wednesday has been identified, leading investigators to a condominium in Huntington Beach where they believe the slaying took place.

But authorities have not released the woman’s name because they had not yet contacted her family Thursday night, Huntington Beach Police Capt. Dan Johnson said. A representative of the Orange County Coroner’s office said the coroner never releases the names of homicide victims.

The investigation has led police to the Millstream condominiums on Warner Avenue just west of Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach, Johnson said.

After working up an identification of the victim, Newport Beach police obtained a search warrant for the woman’s condominium, Johnson said. Investigators found evidence that the slaying happened there, Johnson said. He declined to comment on whether authorities have found a murder weapon.

Police have no suspects so far, Johnson said. Huntington Beach is leading the investigation now, but Newport Beach police are helping.

“They did a lot of the important work yesterday and will continue assisting us,” Johnson said.

Police would not disclose where the woman was stabbed or how many times she was wounded.

The body was found wrapped in a blanket. A dock worker discovered the body floating between a dock and a boat near the Newport Harbor Yacht Club on Wednesday afternoon.
