BRIEFLY IN PUBLIC SAFETY:Arraignment is Monday in alleged assault
Michael Roeder, a German man accused of molesting an 8-year-old girl at the Newport Dunes Resort, is set to be arraigned Monday.
The Orange County District Attorney’s office had originally set the hearing for Friday morning, but moved it until after the weekend. A spokeswoman did not specify a reason for the change.
Roeder, 27, was staying at Newport Dunes on Aug. 23 during a road trip through the Western United States, officials said. A girl at the resort told her parents that a man had groped her while she played in the water, and Roeder was arrested two weeks later while returning a rented RV in Oakland.
Newport Beach police said they found a laptop computer in Roeder’s vehicle containing hundreds of pornographic pictures.
