HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team fell in the Division I semifinals to Laguna Beach, 25-22, 25-19, on Saturday afternoon at Marina High.

Juliane Piggott led the Sea Kings (7-2) with 12 kills and 13 digs in the loss, Jamie Lawson had 10 assists and Kasey Kipp added two aces.

CdM beat Peninsula in the first round, 25-21, 25-17, before topping Back Bay rival Newport Harbor, 25-22, 25-23, in the quarterfinals.

Piggott had 16 kills and seven digs in the win over Peninsula, with Kelly Christian chipping in 11 assists and two service aces. Christian had 10 kills and five digs against Newport Harbor. Kipp and Piggott recorded three solo blocks each.

The Sea Kings also topped Bishop Montgomery, 21-25, 26-24, 15-7, on Saturday morning to win their pool with a 3-0 record. Piggott had 11 kills, Lawson 11 assists and Shannon Johnson had 10 digs.

Newport Harbor, meanwhile, saw its tournament end with the loss to Corona del Mar in the quarterfinals of the championship playoffs. Jamie Heenan had six kills to lead the Sailors (4-1), and Katie Wells, Megan Toman and Megan Munce had five each.

The Sailors came from behind to beat Rosary, 23-25, 25-20, 15-7 in the first round of the tournament’s playoffs. Wells had a team-high 11 kills, Heenan and Munce had 10 each and Toman had seven kills and three service aces.

The Sailors beat Dos Pueblos, 25-15, 25-17, at Newport Harbor High to finish pool play 3-0, earlier Saturday. Munce, Wells and Heenan all had six kills, with Heenan adding four service aces.
