Holiday palette competition begins

The city has announced guidelines for the 2006 holiday palette competition. The palettes decorate the city during the holiday season.

The deadline for palette designs is 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Cultural Arts Department.

Entries will be accepted from Laguna Beach residents, artists having a studio in Laguna Beach or showing in a Laguna Beach gallery, students attending Laguna Beach schools or the Laguna College of Art and Design, or artists exhibiting in the Sawdust Art Festival, Art-a-Fair Festival or Festival of Arts. Proof will be required.

Artists are provided with a prepared 4’ x 3’ wooden palette on which to paint original artwork. The completed palettes are displayed on lamp posts throughout the city during the winter holiday season.

A $300 honorarium will be allocated for each selected design.

Artists are asked to submit a palette design on 8 1/2 x 11” paper, in color, within the border of a palette outline. The design must have a horizontal orientation; the palette indent must be included as integral to the design.

The seven members of the city Arts Commission will judge the designs based on creativity and appropriateness.
