Mesa Verde Partners breaks unbeaten streak

Mesa Verde Partners prevented Hennessey’s from a perfect regular season and Sandpiper stopped a win streak at three games as play heated up in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept. Summer 16” Slow Pitch Softball League at Riddle Field.

Despite the losses in their regular season finales, Hennessey’s and Used Cars still claimed their respective league titles and each will carry a No. 1 seed into the postseason playoffs.

Monday League

Bamboo Bar and Grill 7, Rotary 0

Bamboo Bar and Grill kept its unbeaten season in tact by blanking Rotary en route to its eighth-straight win.

Leadoff batter Wyatt Strateman and No. 2 hitter Ryan Neptune each produced a home run and two singles for Bamboo and Ethan Damato, batting in the No. 5 slot, homered, doubled and singled. Rotary came up with seven singles, two by Steve Swett.

DUI Fighters 13, FD Mavericks 3

Josh Stock, Mica Brown and Chris Matthews each hit a home run and three singles as DUI Fighters moved into a second-place tie in the standings with Rotary.

Lee Mitchell singled twice for the Mavericks.

Forty Majority 11, Hosers 1

Mark Lewis homered twice as Forty Majority kept its playoff hopes alive.

Tuesday League

Sandpiper 8, Used Cars 7

Sean Bill hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to present Sandpiper, which rallied from a 7-3 deficit after five innings, with the victory. Bill also hit a solo homer in the fourth. Ryan Neptune hit a two-run homer and also singled.

Michael McKenzie and Scott Martin each hit a pair of home runs and Andrew Smith homered and singled for Used Cars.

Ganahl Lumber 18, Team Viagra 3

Ganahl Lumber paired a 20-hit attack with a seven-hitter thrown by John Campbell to knock defending league champion Team Viagra out of the playoff picture.

Leadoff hitter Steve Dixon of No. 4 seed Ganahl Lumber went four for four with a three-run double and clean-up hitter Mitch Kruger homered twice and singled.

Dylan Murphy and Nate Pivaroff each hit home runs for Team Viagra.

Island Shade 8, Good, Bad and Ugly 1

Island Shade will take the league’s No. 3 seed into the playoffs after keeping Good, Bad and Ugly winless. Bruce Aguinaldo, Andy Bunn and Ryan Blackman each singled twice for Island Shade.

Wednesday League

Mesa Verde Partners 11, Hennessey’s 3

Defending league champion Mesa Verde Partners handed Hennessey’s its first loss of the season. Phil McManus allowed just seven singles to Hennessey’s hitters, Matt Kucero brought home seven of the 11 runs and Jeff Greenough hit two solo home runs as Mesa Verde Partners won for the eighth time in nine starts.

Dave Mahoney had two of Hennessey’s seven singles.

Sportsworld 12, Sac Johnson 2

Adrian Gullen and Mitch Kruger each homered twice as Sportsworld kept Sac Johnson winless.

Noel Lashley tripled and singled for Sac Johnson.

Puwatrkylegs 1, Artists 0

Ethan Damato delivered a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning that lifted Puswatrkylegs to the victory.

Thursday League

Compound Fractures 14, Hotwings 10

Russell Swarts drove in five runs behind a pair of home runs and single as Compound Fractures qualified for the playoffs. Teammate Chris Mauro singled three times in three at-bats.

Trigg Garner and Bob Jameson each hit a solo home run and single for Hotwings.

Arbitech 16, Brownstars 6

Ryan Neptune smashed a grand slam, a two-run home run and single, good for six RBI, to lead a 16-hit attack as defending league champion Arbitech kept its playoff hopes alive with the easy victory. Torin Pavia hit a solo homer and singled twice for the winners.

Team Hobie 16, Hamstrings 5

Team Hobie road an 11-run outburst in the second inning to a victory that kept the squad in the hunt for a playoff berth.

During that decisive inning, Richard Collins, Mark Christy and Jason Helmick hit home runs.

Mike Wallace homered twice and singled to lead Hamstrings.
