A Huntington Beach man was killed in Nevada when he lost control of his motorcycle while changing lanes and was run over by an 18-wheeler truck, according to a Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman.

Terry L. Vannoy, 54, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle along with a friend eastbound on the Interstate 80 Freeway probably to attend a motorcycle event “Street Vibrations” in Reno, said Jim Link, deputy coroner in Washoe County, Nevada.

The accident occurred at 3.57 p.m. on Thursday. Vannoy died on the scene from multiple injuries at 4.14 p.m., Link said.

Vannoy was making a lane change from the slow to fast lane when he lost control of his bike and laid it down, said Trooper Chuck Allen, spokesman for the Nevada Highway Patrol northern command area.

A white Dodge pickup truck, with an overhead camper, was unable to stop from hitting the bike and Vannoy was catapulted into the slow lane, he said.

“The 18-wheeler in the slow lane tried to avoid hitting the biker, slammed on his brakes but was unable to miss running over the gentleman,” Allen said.

Vannoy and his friend were on their way to Reno, about 7 miles west of Washoe County on the interstate freeway.

The biker fair attracts about 5,000 motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts to Reno every fall season.
