COSTA MESA — The Pirates extended their winning streak to 32 matches with a 30-9, 30-13, 16-30, 30-10 nonconference verdict Friday.

Sophomore Kiwi Winkler led the way with 10 kills and seven digs, while Jennifer Chiffer contributed eight kills and Chelsea Spadaro had 21 assists.

Ashlee Moon had seven digs for the Pirates (6-0).

The Pirates return to action Wednesday at home against Southwestern.

CUYAMACA — John Clark scored on an assist from Dave Barnett to help the Pirates earn the nonconference tie Friday.

Alex Roberts made two saves as for OCC, which is now 4-3-1.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 5, La Sierra 0

RIVERSIDE — Lions senior forward Heather Hutton recorded her second hat trick in three games to lead Vanguard (6-0-1) to a nonconference win.

Rachel Housepian and Erika Barlow added goals for Vanguard.

Kelsey Bowman and Marissa Swift combined for three saves in goal for the Lions.

The Lions are more than halfway to last season’s win total with the victory.

Vanguard opens Golden State Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, when it plays host to Fresno Pacific.

Stanford 2, UC Irvine 0

STANFORD, Calif. — The Anteaters played the Cardinal even for the first half, but the hosts, ranked No. 29, scored two minutes into the second half on its way to the nonconference triumph Friday.

Erin Henry made eight saves for UCI (2-6), which managed just one shot, taken by Kate Berrini.

Stanford, which had goals from Shari Summers and Kelley O’Hara, improved to 6-3.

UCI, under first-year coach April Heinrichs, opens Big West Conference play Friday at Cal State Northridge. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.

MEN’S WATER POLO

UCLA 15, UC Irvine 4

IRVINE — The No. 3-ranked Bruins seized a 4-0 lead heading into the second quarter, led, 8-1, at half, then cruised to nonconference triumph to ruin the Anteaters’ home opener Friday.

Colin Mello had two goals for the No. 11-ranked Anteaters (4-6). He now has a team-leading 30 goals this season.

Logan Powell led the Bruins (5-1) with five goals, including four in the first half.

UCI returns to action Sept. 30 at UC Santa Barbara.

COSTA MESA — The Eagles, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, posted a 30-13, 29-31, 30-25, 33-31 win in a Golden State Athletic Conference match Thursday.

Kelsey Wirt had 21 of the Lions’ 54 kills and added a team-leading 21 digs.

Vanguard fell to 7-6, 0-5 in conference.

Biola improved to 8-5, 2-3.
