UC Irvine 3, Cal State Fullerton 2

FULLERTON — UC Irvine senior Anthony Hamilton punched in a pass from junior Rudy Mondragon for the game-winning goal in the No. 22-ranked men’s soccer team’s, 3-2, Big West Conference victory in overtime over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday at Titan Stadium.

Senior Brad Evans scored on a free kick in the first half and sophomore Matt Murphy added the second goal 41 seconds later for UCI (7-1-1, 2-0).

The Anteaters, who received their first national ranking in the program’s history earlier this week, are now tied with UC Santa Barbara for first place in the Big West with six points.

UCI continues with its Big West home opener against Cal Poly SLO Saturday at 7 p.m.

Vanguard 1, Fresno Pacific 0

COSTA MESA — Vanguard sophomore Tom Culver scored unassisted in the 55th minute, leading the Lions (8-1, 2-0 in league) to an upset Golden State Athletic Conference victory.

It was the first loss of the season for Fresno Pacific (6-1-1).

Will Johnson made four saves for Vanguard, which plays host to Concordia on Tuesday.

Orange Coast def. Southwestern

COSTA MESA — Freshman Jacqui Reed had a team-high 12 kills as the Pirates won a 30-22, 30-13, 30-17 home match on Wednesday.

Kiwi Winkler added 10 kills and 20 digs for OCC (7-0), which has a 33-match winning streak dating back to last season. Jennifer Chiffer had eight kills and Chelsea Spadaro tallied 25 assists.

The Pirates open Orange Empire Conference play at Cypress on Friday at 6 p.m.
