A Huntington Beach man was killed early last Thursday when the driver of a Chrysler van struck him at the corner of Brookhurst and Yorktown, Huntington Beach police said.

Peter Hosey, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Orange County Coroner’s office.

The van’s driver was identified as Roger Meyer, 45, of Huntington Beach. Police are continuing to investigate the accident, but so far Meyer has not been cited, Lt. Terry Lindsey said.

Meyer was northbound on Brookhurst at 5:54 a.m. when he hit Hosey, who was walking east in the crosswalk across Brookhurst Street at Yorktown Avenue, police sard. Meyer called the police, Lindsey said.

Police officers are looking for additional witnesses, said Investigator Bob Barr, who has interviewed couple of them.

“It helps the family understand what happened as well as answer the questions they may have,” he said. “Then we can say how it happened.”

He refused to speculate about who was in the wrong, saying, “I’m trying to keep an open mind.”

Anyone with information about the accident should contact Barr at the Huntington Beach Police Department Traffic Bureau at (714) 536-5666.
