Oilers leave it late

A tight defensive struggle went Huntington Beach’s way Saturday, as the Black Oilers pulled out a 7-0 Clinic Division victory over the Carson Colts in Jr. All-American Football action.

Brandon Entwistle scored the game’s only touchdown in the third quarter, a score capped by Javier Sanchez’s conversion.

The win was the second of the season for the Black Oilers.

Quincy Wimbish Jr., Bowen Blake, Liam Jimmons, Cade Bernard and Anthony de la Torre all made key defensive stands for the Black Oilers.

The victory puts Huntington at 2-1 on the season. The Black Oilers defeated Compton on the opening weekend of play Sept. 9 but fell last week to Carson.

Jr. Clinic Division

Huntington 6, Orange 6

Clyde Carter rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown as the Orange Oilers managed to tie up the Orange Chiefs.

The Orange Oilers are now 0-2-1.

Jr. Pee Wee Division

Mission Viejo 48, Huntington 0

A talented Mission Viejo team proved too much for the Oilers Saturday.

Trevor Jackson came up with an interception and Matt Patterson and Brandon Graves had some big hits for Huntington on defense.

Running back Danny Maguire, who had a big run on a reverse play at the start of the second half, led the Oilers (0-3) in rushing.

Future League

South Bay 18, Huntington 7

Arick McLawyer scored the only touchdown for Huntington in a loss to the Packers.

Jake Parks, Jakob Welch and Jack Carmichael led Huntington on defense and Drake Williamson had a touchdown-saving flag pull.

The loss came a week after a 24-0 victory over South Orange County, and dropped the Orange Oilers’ record to 1-2.
