    2006 CALIFORNIA BIENNIAL

    The Orange County Museum of Art presents the 2006 California Biennial, an event with more than 150 works, featuring large-scale installations, sculpture, paintings, works on paper, wall drawing, photographs, film and video art. The exhibition will be at the Newport Beach location at 850 San Clemente Dr., and in Costa Mesa at 3333 Bear St. Hours vary.

    EXPRESSIVE ARTS CONFERENCE

    Local therapist Jane Goldberg is producing Orange County’s first Expressive Arts Conference at the Fairmont Hotel, 4500 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach. Expressive arts therapy uses one or more art forms to counsel, coach and encourage personal growth. Workshops will be offered in all of the arts, including painting, music and poetry.     FALL ART AND FLOWER FESTIVAL

    “The Art of Flowers” will be presented at the University of California Irvine Arboretum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This show features an outdoor art sale inspired by the beaches, parks and wildlands of California. The arboretum will also hold its Fall Bulb and Perennial Sale, offering various southern African bulbs from their winter flowering collection and fall blooming perennials.     PUGTOBERFEST

    FRIENDSHIP STATUE DEDICATED

    The Donna and John Crean Mariners Branch Library will celebrate the installation of the Newport Beach Sister Cities “Friendship” statue, presented to the city of Newport Beach by Mayor Koichi Shibata of Okazaki, Japan, at 4:30 p.m. Newport Beach Mayor Don Webb and Japanese dignitaries in town to celebrate Newport’s 100th anniversary will speak at the ceremony, which will include a traditional Japanese dance performed by exchange students from Okazaki.     TUX AND TENNIS PARTY

    The Queen of Hearts Foundation will kick off its 4th Annual Queen of Hearts Charity Tennis Tournament with a dinner party at the Newport Beach Tennis Club from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit ovarian cancer research at the UCI Medical-Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Entertainment includes a live band and gambling. Dress for the evening is tuxedos or tennis attire. Tickets are $40 for those not playing in the tournament; participants are free.     HARVEST FESTIVAL

    Piecemakers Country Store welcomes fall with food, entertainment, live music, a Kids’ Fun Zone and 100 booths with handmade items for sale at their Costa Mesa location.     FAMILY FUN

    Kidsfaire-America’s Family Expo, the West Coast’s largest family event, is at the Orange County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features attractions, music, pavilions, stage shows and interactive exhibits. Entertainment includes The Wiggles, Strawberry Shortcake and other popular television characters, and kids can meet and take pictures with Flicka the horse.     CENTENNIAL GRAND FINALE

    Newport Beach is celebrating “100 Years Between the Piers” with all-day music and activities at the Balboa and Newport piers from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Family fun includes games, water activities and exhibits. Food booths and refreshments are for sale. Dick Dale will be performing in concert at the Balboa Pier, and Sugar Ray will be at the Newport Pier.
