Oilers earn first victory

Huntington Beach Pee Wee White Oilers’ dominating performance on Saturday earned them their first victory of the 2006 Jr. All-American Football season.

With J.T. Doran and Elijah Herrera each rushing for more than 100 yards and four players reaching the end zone, Huntington rolled past the Tri-City Steelers, 30-6, in a Pee Wee Division matchup.

Adam Petrarca returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone for the game and keying a strong defensive effort led by Logan Surace, Dominic Surace, Cody Boyd, Zachary Young, Kevin Brown, Adam Palafox, Kameron Nunes, Jordan Pascual and Daniel Kinser.

Doran rushed for two touchdowns and Herrera and quarterback Trenton Aschoff each scored once.

Doran and Herrera racked up their yardage behind the blocking of Brian Prouty, Matthew Kelly, James Hart, Harrison Hagler, Mark Sonetti and Mason Talbert.

In other Pee Wee Division action:

Huntington 20, Mission Viejo 16

Brandon Wooten scored the first Huntington touchdown and Jackson Traung reached the end zone twice, as the Orange Oilers held off the Cowboys.

Nick Rommerdahl caught a conversion pass and also had a key play for an Orange Oilers defense that saw Alex Alagata and Donald Rice come up with several tackles. Damien Williamson made a touchdown-saving tackle in the third quarter.

Austin Moffatt, Jacob Lainson, Joshua Whittaker, Bernardo Robles and Alagata — with an extra-point conversion — all made key contributions on offense for Huntington.

Huntington 13, Inglewood 6

The Black Oilers scored the final 13 points of the game to remain undefeated in five games.

After the Jets had taken a 6-0 lead, Brennan Apodaca scored Huntington’s first touchdown in the second quarter to tie the score. A touchdown run by Javier Sanchez and an extra point by Brandon Entwistle in the third quarter gave the Black Oilers the lead for good.

Joshua Crooks and Dane Romberg led the charge along the offensive line for Huntington.

Nicholas Welch rushed for a touchdown, Arick McLawyer intercepted a pass and Shane Hammer recorded a pair of fumble recoveries on kickoff returns in the Orange Oilers’ loss to the Cowboys.
