Oilers sweep past Mustangs
The Huntington Beach High girls’ volleyball team got out of a recent rut with a sweep of Trabuco Hills in a Sea View League match.
The Oilers posted a 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 victory over the host Mustangs on Friday.
Kalyn Klaess had 14 digs, Tori Thompson five kills and 27 assists, Lindsey Benac 10 kills and three aces, Brooke Mullins six kills and two blocks and Jenna Catalano five kills, to lead the Oilers.
“We have been in a rut, but tonight our team showed up to play,” Huntington Coach Kim Clarke said. “We had a well-rounded game with a nice, even distribution of sets from Thompson.
“Our strengths right now are our serving and our defense led by Benac and Klaess, and now that Thompson is beginning to connect with our middles more consistently, we have many options with our offense.”
In a previous match, visiting Northwood came back from two games down to defeat Huntington, 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-12, 15-9, in another Sea View League match.
Benac had 13 kills and 12 digs, Klaess 16 digs, Thompson 35 assists, Brittney Ramos 17 digs and Kellie Turner six kills and seven blocks, for Huntington.
