Lemieux crown fits Misfits

The Misfits outscored Doesn’t Matter by two goals in the final period, which proved to be the difference in a 5-4 victory that gave them the Lemieux Division championship at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Paul Leigh, Jamie Schlegel and Sean Easton all scored goals for the Misfits in that period, where they outscored Doesn’t Matter, 3-1, to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Brooke Easton and Michael Thistle also scored goals for the Misfits and Schlegel, Joel Dapello, Ben Piontkowski and Sean Easton all had assists.

Jacob Renaud recorded 21 saves.

Doesn’t Matter’s scoring came from Keith Dickson, Ryan Daley, Shane Sorbom and Kevin Christi. Travis Benson, Kyle Donovan and Spencer Baldwin each had an assist and Corey Jones finished with 20 saves.

Wales Division

Bullfrogs 6,

Tropical Penguins 3

The Bullfrogs broke away form a 2-2 tie by outscoring the Penguins, 4-1, in the final period to take the division title.

Jason Callanan and Craig Wellander each scored twice to lead the Bullfrogs in scoring. Joshua Ane and Blake Miller also scored goals. Callanan also handed out three assists, Miller and Ane each had two assists and Wellander and Miller each had one.

Tyler Allen stopped 32 shot attempts.

Jeremy McHenry scored the first two goals for the Tropical Penguins, Bryan Perez netted the third and Jeff Perez had an assist. Kenneth Nguyen had 16 saves.

Campbell Division

Breakers 3, Famous Stars 1

In another division final decided in the final period, the Breakers shut out the Famous Stars down the stretch, 2-0, to take the crown.

Garrett Zolg, Braeden Stack and Ian Gibbons each scored goals and also had an assist. Aaron Maccabi had eight saves.

Brett Rudy scored unassisted for the Famous Stars and Blake Walker recorded 28 saves.

Patrick Division

Thunder 6, Wayne’s World 2 5

This high-scoring final went to the Thunder, who had four players score goals in the narrow win.

Jacob Gonzales and Omar Tepayotl led the way with two goals each and Tyler Estes and Corey Jones each scored once. David Schenker led the Thunder in assists with three and Tristan DeBoom had two.

Bradley Grote had 26 saves.

The Wayne’s World 2 scoring consisted of three goals by Robert Oliver and two by Chas Scott, who also led the team with two assists.

Shaun Black and Joshua Ishizaki also had assists and Brandon Jones finished with 30 saves.
