Scoreless ties have become the norm in recent games for the North Huntington Beach Black girls’ Under-11 soccer team.

For the second-straight weekend, NHB played to a scoreless tie, this time battling the Junior United Soccer Assn. Select Blue Club of Anaheim.

On Oct. 7, NHB and Orange Junior Soccer Club fought to a scoreless tie.

NHB had many scoring opportunities throughout the match against Select Blue, but couldn’t convert them into goals.

In the first half, shots by Emily Vanesse, Kaylyn Benzen, Raya Young and Kayla Wigney peppered the Select Blue goal. Defensively, NHB goalie Penny Roman saved a few shots and was fronted by the defensive line of Lindsey Archer, Katie Gainous, Madison Gioia, Christina Sanchez and Sarah Shklanko.

NHB controlled the ball for more than half of the game and also received productive offensive pressure in the second half from Lisa Fast, Janae Megorden, Carolyn Archer, Kristen Shklanko, Kirstyn Nold and Kendra Koelsch.

NHB, now 2-1-3, is six points out of first place in the division standings and takes on the SoCal Blues Blue of San Juan Capistrano Saturday at Hope View School in Huntington Beach.
