A Costa Mesa woman remained hospitalized in serious condition and under arrest Thursday after she reportedly drove her minivan into a block wall Wednesday evening.

Janine Labrado, 39, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and child endangerment after her minivan slammed into a wall on Merrimac Way and Harbor Boulevard, seriously injuring herself and her boyfriend. Labrado’s 8-year-old daughter, who was in the backseat, was also injured.

Police said a witness followed Labrado’s minivan as she reportedly drove it south on Harbor Boulevard erratically, weaving in and out of lanes, Sgt. Marty Carver said. The witness told police it appeared Labrado intentionally veered into a block wall around 6:15 p.m. as she and her boyfriend, Brian Desmond, 43, of Costa Mesa, argued in the car, Carver said.

Labrado was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where she was arrested and booked. Labrado’s daughter and Desmond were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Information about their condition and injuries was not available Thursday. Labrado has a good chance of survival, said Karen Prestia, spokeswoman for Mission Hospital.

An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy will remain with Labrado until she can be taken to the Orange County Jail, Carver said.
