THE MORAL OF THE STORY:Sing of God’s beautiful creation

“Love all God’s creation, the whole and every grain of sand in it. Love every leaf, every ray of God’s light. Love the animals, love the plants, love each separate thing.”

— FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY

Sometimes when I am caught up in the beauty of God’s creation, I am speechless. Totally silent. There are no words I know that could begin to describe the magnificence of the masterpieces God has created.

Sometimes when I gaze at the expanse of the never-ending sky or the ever-moving sea, I can’t help but sing. That happened recently when my mind had collected so many colorful images of God’s handiwork in the sky, in the sea, on my walks and in my life that my mental scrapbook overflowed and my feelings spilled out in song.

I didn’t write the song, but I imagine that songwriter Mark Altrogge wrestled with choosing words to convey his feelings when he wrote the song that I sang when I overflowed with awe of God.

Read the words and let your mind release pictures of some of God’s beautiful handiwork in your life.

‘I STAND IN AWE OF YOU’

You are beautiful beyond description

Too marvelous for words,

Too wonderful of comprehension,

Like nothing ever seen or heard.

Who can grasp your infinite wisdom?

Who can fathom the depth of your love?

You are beautiful beyond description,

Majesty enthroned above

And I stand, I stand in awe of you.

I stand, I stand in awe of you.

Holy God, to whom all praise is due,

I stand in awe of you.

I felt compelled to sing the song after a series of events left me no other choice. I am always amazed by God’s creativity whenever I pause to marvel at the wonders in nature, and I think I’ve done more pausing and marveling lately.

I celebrated a birthday and as I reflected on God’s love and faithfulness this past year, it seemed like I had reminders of his goodness everywhere I looked.

I’ve always loved the feel of sand on my feet when I walk on the beach and, on a recent walk, I had a thought that in some way God’s love is reflected in the minuscule size of a grain of sand and the multitude of grains in the beach. God cares about the smallest little concern I have, yet his love for me is of a magnitude I can’t fathom.

The crashing waves seemed to applaud and echo that thought.

I was also reminded of God’s love and faithfulness as I read affirming sentiments in birthday cards from family and friends.

Several people applauded changes and growth that God has made in me, and I thank God for his graciousness.

God is beautiful beyond description, and I stand in awe of him. And you can quote me on that.
