Police to set up sobriety checkCosta Mesa Police will set up a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday on Harbor Boulevard, north of Wilson Street.

The checkpoint is in cooperation with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which will bring along a wrecked car from a local fatal crash involving a drunk driver. Photos from the crash scene and a story of what happened will also be at the site.

The Costa Mesa Police Department funds the checkpoint program through a California Office of Traffic Safety grant from its Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.

The Costa Mesa Police Department also holds random saturation nights to stave off aggressive and intoxicated driving.

The department also run programs in conjunction with the Orange County Healthcare Agency to warn people of the dangers.

Funeral procession will block trafficNewport Beach Police issued a traffic advisory for noon to 2 p.m. Friday for a law enforcement funeral procession coming to Newport Beach.

The procession is for Los Angeles Police Officer Landon Dorris, 31, who was hit and killed by a car while investigating a minor traffic accident in Los Angeles.

Funeral-goers will travel along MacArthur Boulevard, San Joaquin Road and Marguerite Avenue to get to Pacific View Memorial Park, where Dorris will be buried.

The services will be in Los Angeles.
