Girls under 12

Patriots 4, Blueberries 4: The Patriots’ Page Keys scored two goals, with Carly Christian and Emmy Nall adding assists and Jenna Frum also playing tenacious for the Patriots. In goal, Taylor Kalatschan made 13 saves. Gabriella Parisi, Kellyn McKibbin and Frum played well as midfielders for the Patriots, as did Kira McKlurg, Natalie Teale, Molly Manser, Haleigh Silva and Jackie Jones on defense.

Smashing Pumpkins 2, Purple Skittles 0: Sara Hamilton and Elizabeth Muenchow scored goals for the Pumpkins, who broke away in the second quarter with Jacquelyn Wills and Gigi Light moving the ball up-field. Goalie Ryan Sweeney preserved the shutout. Sophie Temple and Victoria Gonzales were strong defenders and Gina Schley was tireless in running the ball for the Pumpkins.

Girls under 10

Red Angels 5, Pink Panthers 0: Kekai Whitford scored two fourth-quarter goals for the Angels, with Emma Griffith, Kierstyn Yardley and Katie Kearns also finding the back of the net. Assists went to Katie Conway, Delaney Gastineau, Rachel Whitelegge, Whitford, Yardley and Grace Muenchow. Caylee Talbot also showed remarkable defensive moves for the winners and Kristin Watanabe and Hannah Tucker were strong on offense.

For the Panthers, first-half goalie Olivia Jones gave up just one goal. Defensive play from Julianna Eifler, Emily Halphide, Isabel Leveque and Stephanie Navarro helped keep it close, along with third-quarter goalie Noelle Hubbard. Kate Yasko, Hannah Doolin, Katya Farynski and Lauren Loucks were all strong on offense for the Panthers.

Flaming Hot Cheetos 0, Blue Army Angels 0: Defense ruled the day as the Cheetos hung onto first place with the tie. For the Cheetos, Shea Horvath and Erika Nilsson held strong in goal, with great all-around performances by Jaci DeFeo, Megan Mirabal, Skylar Gullick, Annie La Grandeur, Gigi Woodall, Bowie Viloria, Amanda Shepperd and Sadie Garner.

Blue Angels 3, Teal Seals 0: Olivia Sever scored the hat trick in the Blue Angels’ win. Her first goal was assisted by great ball control from Kendall Consenza and Molly McCunniff and Lindzy Konrad driving the ball down the field. Leading the defense for the Blue Angels were Giulia Chlarson, Logan Grove and Emily Fay. Jordan Goldsberry and Lily Brandon also did a solid job in goal.

For the Teal Seals, Megan Keys, Seneca Fuller and Payton Espley-Jones paced the offense with great passing. Amanda Dupont blocked 12 shots for the Seals, and Madeline Bubb, Emily Preshong and Isabella Islava played well in the midfield. Amanda Vaughan and Emily Wolfe produced big defensive plays all day for the Seals.

Soccer Freaks 4, Green Gators 1: Sierra Stump scored twice and Felicity Giddings and Sabrina Sanchez added goals in the come-from-behind win for the Freaks. Midfielders Jessie Rath, Maddy Kanzler, Olivia Zehnder, Kira Wandrocke, Cameron Dewan and Riley Cox all played well. Defenders Tess Alexander, Emily Goltz, Jordan Kaufman and goalies Jenna Lincoln and Giddings also excelled.

Boys under 10 (APP)

Newport-Mesa Mavericks 5, South Irvine 0: Left wing Carson Poivre scored three goals to lead the Mavericks’ attack, also paced by midfielders Byron Gutierrez, Caleb O’Neil, Cash Swank and Ryan Braun. Chaz Beek and Jehu Jogwe also netted goals, with assists from Jack Binford. The shutout was preserved with solid defense from Peter Seidner and Dominik Folkner in the Advanced Play Program game.

Boys under 10

FC Fury 4, Golden United 2: The Fury’s Christian Watson scored twice early in the first half, with assists from Riley Brockman and Mikey Ischinger. Golden United then mounted a second-half comeback, with goals by Jake Parks and Brett Tafoya. But Chase Braun’s goal broke the tie for the Fury, and Reed Rutter added a late goal on Daniel Pham’s assist. Defenders Cooper Hendrix, Jack Cornuke and Jake Whelan played well for the Fury to preserve the win.

Girls under 8

Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. The Green Wave: Julie Doyle put two first-quarter goals in for the Peppers. Lauren Henke and Sienna Amoroso provided strong defense, while Destry Comp and Rayna Richards controlled the midfield with excellent passing. Julia Ackerman added a goal in the second quarter on Erika Ellis’ assist, and Ellis also scored for the Peppers after intercepting a Green Wave goal kick.

Girls under 7

Newborn Puppies vs. Orange Crushers: The Puppies played one of their best games, with Holly Nance making many goalie saves and scoring on offense. Kailyn Kramer created defensive turnarounds and scored another goal, and Jordan Golden also scored and had many defensive steals. Miranda McCormick shined on defense, and Saylor Neddleman showed no fear as goalie. Sydney Palmer showed strong passing and had many drives to the goal.

Boys under 7

Goblins vs. Fireballs: Tanner Shallahamer scored a Goblins goal, assisted by Matthew Carney. Tommy Hanle had a shot on goal and cleared the ball from the pack. Nicolas Nataupsky had a good corner kick for the Goblins and played great defense, as did Scott Ryder in goal. Cole Schnieder made some great offensive moves, and Nick Halphide played great defense. Dillon Lippman was able to clear the ball several times for the Goblins, and Roy Manwell made some nice passes to his teammates.

Green Bulldogs vs. Mini Manchester: The Minis had great play on both ends from John Olmstead, Jagger Mitchell and Ian Harper. Anthony Rath, Jake Fleener and Alex Bard put in a great effort as usual, and goalies Billy Shannon, Race Moores and Ben Zehnder combined to prevent the Bulldogs from scoring.

Rippin’ Waves: The team showed impressive offense by Dax Maxwell, Sean Waterman and Zachary Dethloff. Antoine Jackson, Joey McClurg and Hayden Schott all had scoring opportunities, Scott Siecinski and Lucas Ovalle played strong defense and Brent Valentine scored a crowd-pleasing goal.

Girls under 14

Costa Mesa Royalty 1, Costa Mesa Code Red 0: The Royalty scored a fourth-quarter goal and hung on for the narrow win. For Code Red, forwards Selina Grant, Sarah Bramlett and Brooke Wanbaugh, along with midfielders Vanessa Corona, Amanda Wilson and Elizabeth Figueroa, all played well in the first half. Defenders Jessica Oseguera, Jenny Nava and Adriana Gutierrez-Campos all shined in holding the Royalty scoreless in the first half. Jillian Tanner had a beautiful run up the field in the third quarter for Code Red, and midfielder Jade Gonzales, sweeper Sydney Caffey and second-half goalie Hayley Smith all played well.

Girls under 11 (APP)

Costa Mesa 1, North Irvine 1: North Irvine scored in the first quarter, but a late breakaway goal by Jackie Hubbard gave Costa Mesa the tie. Hubbard was assisted on the play by Claudia Huerta’s powerful throw in and midfielder Emily Grady. Defenders Emily Gruber, Amy Heil, Marlene Calderon and Huerta helped Costa Mesa shut down North Irvine for much of the game. Forwards Sophie Shambrook, Jackie Tanner, Anna Vivanco and Christina Tuer kept the ball in the North Irvine half of the field. Goalies Jayme Krohnfeldt (first half) and Gracie Daimond also shined for Costa Mesa.

Boys under 8

Mad Dogs 5, Caltrans Tigers 0: Nick Warner scored twice for the Mad Dogs and Garrett Weichman, Jake McIntyre and Genaro Ruiz all added goals in the win. Parker Crawley and Edric Ruiz led the strong Mad Dogs defense, and Christian Martinez and Andrew Strauss assisted the offense with several shots on goal.

Girls under 6

Purple Puppies vs. Purple Dolphins: For the Purple Puppies, Allison O’Heany, Emily Hoffman and Lilli Rask led the way on offense. Sofia Palma, Kelsey Bond, Camryn Carter, Erica Lopes and Lexi Alvarez played tough defense for the Purple Puppies.

Boys under 10 Plus

CdM Blue Eagles 3, Costa Mesa 0: The Blue Eagles, of Region 57, topped Costa Mesa of Region 120. After a scoreless first half, Brett Greenlee of CdM opened the scoring with a hard shot into the net off a direct kick. Justin Hanson followed that with a drive down the left side of the field and a subsequent goal, and Timmy Hanson also scored for the Blue Eagles. Logan Miller earned the shutout in goal, and defenders Ryan Maister, Justin Hess, Blake Fesko and Kevin Fults mounted many counterattacks. Midfielders Greenlee, David Karamardian, Jack Klein, Nick Premer and Ryan Stone made nice passes all game to forwards Jason Neiger, Jake Giffin, Justin Hanson and Timmy Hanson.

AYSO Region 57

Boys under 8

Ferraris vs. Newport Stoppers: John Paul Mohr, JP Ziegler, Braxton Andry and Alex Munro supplied shutout defense for the Ferraris. Ziegler, George Hagestad, Chris Flattum and Chase Furey had nifty passes that led to goals by Brett Super, Gianluca Vassalli, Hagestad, Furey and Flattum.

Green Crushers vs. Eagles: Green Crushers forwards Brandon Cargile and Garin Friedman made some nice passes, resulting in a score for both players. Cole Sudeck had several shots on goal and made nice passes, while Ryan St. John played well defensively, offensively and in goal. Ethan Sparks had strong goal kicks for the Crushers, resulting in another goal for Friedman and a goal by St. John. Logan Niedermayer, Matthew Hamadani and Jordan Heinemann played well in defense and midfield.

Newport-Mesa Jr. All-American

Junior Pee Wee Division

Fountain Valley Barons 14, Newport-Mesa Seahawks 12: The Seahawks came from behind twice, answering two Fountain Valley touchdowns, but couldn’t convert the PAT to fall to 5-2, 4-2 in their division.

Jeff Carlyle scored on runs of 63 yards and one yard for Newport-Mesa, behind stellar blocking from Max Meisenheimer, Alex Losoya, Taro Doone, Bronson Gilbert, Kurt Walde, Troy Reese, Levi Stillman, Kory Cablay and Colby Koste. Chase Forrest looked good at quarterback for the Seahawks, hitting Stillman on a third and long to keeping Newport-Mesa’s first scoring drive going.

Luke Burnicle, Daemon Kane, Devin Magana, Victor Valladares, Rafael Corvera, Nick Gomez, Taylor Parks, JP Pilz, Christian Abbey and Blake Bowie had fine offensive performances for the Seahawks. Defensively, Chris Johnstone, Garrett Farthing, Kyle Benter and Koste all had tackles for a loss.

Kenny Drinnon, Todd Jarvis, Cayman Carter and Adrian Marin also played well on defense for Newport-Mesa.
