RFP for new superintendent

The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a Request for Proposals for selection of a firm to conduct the search for the district’s new superintendent at a short, recently announced meeting on Nov. 1.

The board discussed which search firms should be sent a copy of the RFP and agreed to send it out to firms around the country in order to attract the best candidates.

  • Honorary Service Award nominees

Laguna Beach district schools, along with the Baha’i community of Laguna Beach, are seeking nominations from the community for their honorary service award and scholarship program for outstanding students in the district.

This program is for students from fifth grade through high school. Selected will be two fifth-grade students from Top of the World and two from El Morro elementary schools; four Thurston Middle School students; four Laguna Beach High School students; and four faculty members, one from each school.

The purpose of the award program is to recognize the philanthropic contributions of those selected.

Nominations may be submitted for those candidates who provide community service, either at school or in the community at large, and who have demonstrated a sustained effort of service throughout their activities.

These services should be of proven value to the community (i.e., hospital volunteer, child care, services for youth or the elderly); reflect an attitude of genuine caring for all humanity, regardless of race, class or religion; and be directed toward the strengthening of bonds among the diverse people of Laguna Beach.

All nominations should include the individual’s name, address, telephone number and a summary of his/her activities, and be submitted by Jan. 18 to the Baha’is of Laguna Beach, P.O. Box 1875, Laguna Beach, CA 92652.

The awards will be presented at the Artists’ Theatre on Feb. 28. For more information, call (949) 494-3083, ext. 4.
