Costa Mesa police said this morning they are looking for three teenagers, one of whom allegedly shot a Costa Mesa man Wednesday night in a gang-related incident on Shalimar Drive.

Luis Ochoa, 21, was in his driveway in the 700 block of Shalimar Drive around 7 p.m. when the three men approached him and demanded to know what gang he was in, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said. When Ochoa denied belonging to a gang, one of the men raised a shotgun and fired it at him, hitting him in the left arm.

Carver said police believe Ochoa associates with a Costa Mesa gang and the suspects belong to a rival gang. But Carver also said police had no information to suggest a gang feud in the neighborhood.

After Ochoa was shot, the men fled into an alley on foot. Carver said police have no information about the suspects. Ochoa was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was expected to require surgery for tissue damage to his arm.

Police are unsure if the third teenager is involved but say he did flee at the same time as the other two.

Police request anyone with information on the incident to call (714) 754-5053.
