A swarming Huntington defense, headed by Jesse Kuet, Matt McKenzie, Tyler Warren, Trevor Loflin, Andrew Mickle, Seth Shearer Fox, Sam Doxakis, Charles Mendola, Roman Smith, Alan Vogelsang and Steven Tovatt, completely shut down Norwalk. The unit posted its 11th consecutive shutout victory of the season.

A 40-yard touchdown run by Trevor Borkowski gave the Green Chargers a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, a 10-yard scoring run by Steele Escobedo, a 45-yard TD run by Robert Rice and a point after run by Treavon Coley sent Huntington into the half with a 19-0 lead.

In a 12-second span at the outset of the second half, the Green Chargers further put away Norwalk when Borkowski returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown and Coley scored on a pass play to make it 26-0.

At the 6:56 mark of the third quarter, Borkowski scored again and for the ninth time this season, the mercy rule went into affect after Huntington went up, 32-0.

Doxakis finished the game with four sacks and Mickle, Smith, Loflin and Peter Russo continually harassed the Norwalk offense.

Huntington scored both of its touchdowns in the second half of play and the Green Chargers (7-1) shut out the league’s highest scoring team in the opening round of the Division I playoffs.

The win advances the Green Chargers into a 5 p.m. Saturday matchup against No. 1-seed La Mirada (9-0) in Anaheim. The winner of that contest moves on to the division’s Orange Bowl game.

A defensive struggle resulted in a scoreless first half, where Huntington’s defense held Saddleback’s potent offense to minus-six yards.

The high-powered Bears mustered just 19 yards of total offense in the game.

The Green Chargers got their offense on track at the start of the second half and used a 63-yard, seven-play drive — capped by a 29-yard touchdown run by Adam Spies — to take a 6-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Huntington put together an 11-play drive that covered 72 yards and this time, Christopher Ogilvie did the scoring honors from a yard out. The conversion by Cameron North made it 14-0.

Leading the Huntington defense was Spies with six tackles, one a loss for 25 yards and another a quarterback sack. Eric Vogelsang had four tackles and a sack, three of Steven Springer’s five tackles resulted in negative yardage, Josh Peth had four tackles and Chris Dubois had three tackles, including a potential TD-saving tackle on a hitch pass that went for a two-yard loss.
