NHB Black, a North Huntington Beach Soccer Club girls’ Under-11 team, returned to winning form last weekend with a pair of wins.

First, NHB disposed of Blast Soccer Club of San Bernardino, 4-0, then took care of Cerritos Infinity, 2-1.

With the two victories, NHB (4-1-4) moved to within three points of the top spot in the Silver Elite South bracket standings of the Coast Soccer League.

In the win over the Blast, Janae Megordan began game’s scoring with an early goal and Christina Sanchez followed with a goal on a direct kick from 25 yards out.

Alex Karlowitsch finished a dominant offensive display by NHB in the first half with a goal that gave the locals a 3-0 halftime cushion.

Sanchez scored her second goal of the match in the second half, this one coming on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that sailed past the Blast keeper and into the net.

In its match against Cerritos Infinity, NHB overcame a 1-0 deficit to score a 2-1 victory against a team it had played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the season.

Midway through the first half, with NHB trailing, 1-0, Katie Gainous sent a long cross pass to teammate Raya Young, who kicked in the tying goal.

A direct kick in the second half by Christina Sanchez proved to be the game-winning goal for NHB, as keeper Penny Roman kept Infinity scoreless in the second half.

NHB again plays two matches this weekend. At 10:35 a.m. Saturday, it hosts West Coast Soccer Club of Mission Viejo at Hope View Elementary School. The second match, on Sunday, is in Irvine against the Futbol Club Blades, the only team to defeat NHB this year.
