Joseph X. McCormack

Joseph X. McCormack, a 29-year resident of Costa Mesa, died of a heart attack Friday in Irvine. He was 82.

McCormack, born Aug. 26, 1924, in Vicksburg, Miss., owned an accounting business for 20 years, and he worked as an accountant for Far West Management for 15 years before that. He served as a controller for the Marine Corps at the El Toro air station and at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

McCormack is survived by sons Mitch and Gary McCormack; daughter Kelly Small; sisters Catherine Goodrum and Joann Trahan; eight grandsons; three great-grandchildren, two daughters in law, Ann and Debi McCormack; and son in-law Jon Small.

He was a 25-year member of St. John the Baptist church, volunteering, among other duties as an usher and greeter. McCormack devoted much of his time to volunteer organizations after retiring.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today preceded by a rosary at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1015 Baker St., Costa Mesa. A graveside service will follow at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
