Brandon Entwistle rushed for a touchdown and recovered a fumble as the Black Oilers held on to defeat the Generals in a first-round matchup.

Huntington took an early lead when Liam Jimmons ran for a touchdown — his first of the season — and added the conversion.

The Orange Oilers maintained the lead in the fourth quarter when Entwistle scored and Javier Sanchez picked up the extra point.

The Orange Oilers take on the Inglewood Jets Saturday in second-round action.

Jr. Pee Wee Division

The two teams played to a tie during the regular season, but the host Broncos won the rematch in a first-round clash in Bellflower.

Another defensive battle dominated Saturday’s action as well, as the teams were scoreless at the half.

Huntington’s defensive efforts of Jesse Olesen, Keko Carmona, Grant Lowman, Collin Kearon and Nick Tricarico, held the Broncos to just four first downs the entire game.

Midway through the third quarter, Bellflower scored on a run and went up 13-0 by scoring its final touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Oilers battled back from a slow start to the season to earn a playoff berth. They finished their season with a record of 3-3-2.

Cheers for local cheerleaders

The Huntington Beach Cheer Clinic team captured another first-place finish, this time at the Magic Mountain Cheer Competition held last weekend. Also at the competition, Huntington’s Clinic Orange, a returning national title-winning team, placed second in its division and the Clinic Black was fourth.
