A battle between unbeaten teams Saturday turned into another mismatch for the Huntington Beach Green Chargers.

Displaying a dominance on defense that it’s been accustomed to all season and blending it with another productive offensive outing, Huntington walloped the Brea Bengals, 32-0, to capture the Jr. Pee Wee Division Orange Bowl championship in Pop Warner Football Orange Empire League playoff action.

It was the defense that set up Huntington’s offense for its first score by stopping Brea short of the required yardage needed on a fourth-down play midway through the first quarter. On the Green Oilers’ ensuing possession, Treavon Coley scored on a 25-yard run and Trevor Borkowski provided the two-point conversion to make it an 8-0 game.

Borkowski later hit Coley with a pass that resulted in a 65-yard touchdown that put Huntington in front, 14-0. Alan Vogelsang intercepted a Brea pass in the second quarter and the defensive play of Peter Russo, Aaron Vargas, Steven Tovatt, Tyler Warren, Sam Doxakisand Roman Smith, kept Brea out of the end zone to allow the Green Chargers a 14-point halftime cushion.

The lead grew to 20-0 on a six-yard touchdown run by Stone Escobedo midway through the third quarter. Borkowski rushed for a touchdown with 6:44 to play in the game, and in the closing seconds, Steele Escobedo rushed for the final score on a fourth-and-goal play.

Matt McKenzie and Andrew Mickle also turned in strong defensive performances for the Green Chargers.

Huntington’s defense has not been scored upon this season. Borkowski, Vargas, Robert Rice and Jordan Palomino combined to rush for more than 220 yards.

The Green Chargers, now 10-0, travel Saturday to San Diego for round one of the Western Regional Conference finals.
