The CIF-Southern Section Division I girls’ tennis playoffs get underway at 2 p.m. today, and the Huntington Oilers are part of the postseason party.
The Oilers earned an at-large bid to the Division I playoffs and will play at Troy today. The Warriors are champions of the Freeway League.
The winner of the Huntington-Troy match will advance to second-round playoff action Saturday and will take on the winner of today’s first-round matchup between Orange Coast League champion Laguna Beach and San Clemente (South Coast No. 3).
Both Ocean View and Marina opened up play Tuesday with first-round matches in the girls’ volleyball playoffs. The scores weren’t available at press time.
Ocean View, champion of the Golden West League, hosted Century, the No. 3 team out of the Orange League, in a Division III-A match. A win Tuesday by the Seahawks would move them into a second-round, 7 p.m. match tonight against the winner of Tuesday’s first-round match between Valley Christian (Olympic No. 2) and Cerritos (Suburban No. 3).
Marina, meanwhile, earned an at-large berth to the Division I-AA playoffs. The Vikings battled Moore League champion Long Beach Wilson Tuesday. A victory by Marina advances the Vikings to a second-round match tonight (7 p.m.) against the winner of Tuesday’s first-round match between Woodbridge (Sea View No. 2) and San Clemente (South Coast No. 3).
