Sandpiper, Team Hobie win on diamond

Sandpiper and Team Hobie each collected recent victories at Riddle Field to remain tied atop the Tuesday League standings in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept. Fall 16” softball program.

Tuesday LeagueSandpiper rode a three-hitter by ace Chris Howell to defeat Ganahl Lumber.

Sandpiper 7, Ganahl Lumber 2

Of the three hits, Bob Bonn hit a two-run home run for Ganahl Lumber in the final inning.

Howell backed his pitching effort with a home run and single, Sean Bill hit a pair of home runs and Michael McKenzie homered for Sandpiper.

Team Hobie 4, C-Dawgs 3Team Hobie posted two runs in its final at-bat to overcome a 3-2 lead by the C-Dawgs.

Frank Ranieri had given the C-Dawgs a 3-2 lead with a solo home run. Ranieri also connected on a two-run home run in the third inning.

Hamstrings 8, Vipers Minions 7Vick Ferreira hit two solo home runs and singled in a three for three performance as the South Laguna Hamstrings slipped past the Vipers Minions.

Joel Harris tripled and singled and Andre Marriner, Mike Wallace and Alex Carter, who hit at the top of the Hamstrings’ batting order, each homered.

Kai Bond hit a two-run home run and singled, Griffin Cogorjo had a two-run homer and Vince Marconi a solo homer for the Vipers Minions.

Thursday LeagueJeff Tankersley hurled a four-hitter, all singles, as the Artists handed the DUI Fighters their first loss of the season.

Artists 4, DUI Fighters 1

Cary Majerus singled three times and Greg Kain singled twice for the winners.

Red Rum 12, Artists 7After handing the DUI Fighters a 4-1 loss and knocking them from first-place in the league standings, the Artists fell to Red Rum and the loss allowed the DUI Fighters to reclaim first-place.

Red Rum rallied behind 12 hits with five batters getting two hits each. Allen Krist homered and singled to net three RBI, Josh Hutley tripled and singled and Andrew Brodrick doubled and singled.

DUI Fighters 7, Drilco 3Chris Matthews doubled and singled twice and Matt McCullum hit a three-run home run as the DUI Fighters moved back into first-place.

Nick Glavas singled three tims for Drilco.

Red Rum 7, Compound Fractures 4

Allen Krist homered and tripled and Dale Rehberg doubled and singled twice to lead the Red Rum offensive attack.

Eric Nelson doubled and singled and David Strong homered for the Compound Fractures.

47’s 5, Drilco 047’s 7, Compound Fractures 0Robert Wright limited Drilco to just two hits in the first game of the week for the 47’s, then tossed a four-hitter at Compound Fractures.

Kirk Irsfeld had a home run and single in the win over Drilco.
