Orange Coast 79, Moorpark 67

MOORPARK — Steven Cornett, a sophomore post player, scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Pirates to their first victory of the season, a 79-67 nonconference win over Moorpark Wednesday.

Orange Coast College freshman Tyler Hentzen scored 16 points.

Cameron Wise, a sophomore, scored eight points for OCC. Shaun Engle, a freshman, added seven points for the Pirates.

Orange Coast College (1-2) will next face Chaffey at the Citrus College Tournament Nov. 24 at 3 p.m.

RIVERSIDE — Guard Dennis Heenan scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, but Vanguard (1-3) fell in a road nonconference game Wednesday.

Miguel Rosales and Kevin Dalafu each added 13 points for the Lions, who were outscored 44-26 in the second half. Vanguard shot 38.6% (22 of 57) from the field. UCR improved to 2-2.

The Lions plays host to Pitzer College of Pomona on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
