Another shutout for Green Chargers

Will the Huntington Beach Green Chargers ever be challenged in the 2006 Pop Warner Football season?

Saturday proved to be another fruitless fight for the opponent. This time, Scripps Ranch had the task of facing a Huntington in the Jr. Pee Wee Division playoffs, and like past opponents the Green Chargers have faced, the Falcons failed to crack the scoreboard. Huntington rolled to a 28-0 victory in the first round of the Western Regional Conference finals in San Diego.

The Green Chargers, who last week won the division’s Orange Bowl championship with a 32-0 win over Brea, improved to 13-0 and have not been scored upon in 52 quarters of football.

It didn’t take the Green Chargers long to get rolling on offense Saturday, as they needed just three plays to score. Treavon Coley did the honors, his 37-yard run and the conversion by Trevor Borkowski resulted in an 8-0 lead.

In the first quarter alone, the Chargers racked up more than 150 yards of offense. Coley, Borkowski and Jordan Palomino rushed for big chunks of yardage behind the blocking of Steven Tovatt, Aaron Vargas and Sam Doxakis.

Borkowski scored before the quarter was over to increase the lead to 14-0. After taking over on downs early in the second quarter, Coley capped a 48-yard drive with his second touchdown run of the day. The Green Chargers took a 20-0 lead into the half.

In the second half, Palomino scored on a 55-yard run and Rice’s conversion upped the score to 28-0. A 61-yard interception return for a touchdown earlier in the game by Rice was negated by a penalty against Huntington.

The Green Chargers will take on the Brawley Wildcats at 11 a.m. Saturday at Los Altos High in Hacienda Heights in the semifinal round of the conference playoffs.
