Girls under 12

Patriots 2, Cold Chili Peppers 1: Page Keys scored a goal and had an assist to Gabby Parisi for the Patriots’ second goal in the win. Emily Nall, Molly Manser and Jenna Frum played well the entire game. Goalie Taylor Kalatshan had 10 saves. Kari Hancock and Carly Christian did a great job on offense for the Patriots. Defensively, Natalie Teale, Kira McClurg, Haliegh Silva and Natalie Lobel did well to keep the ball out of the net.

Smashing Pumpkins 2, Blue Berries 1: Pumpkin Gina Scholey scored the first goal of the game in the second quarter. Excellent defensive work by Pumpkin Bridget Kavanaugh protected Elizabeth Muenchow, who then scored the team’s second goal. Hailey Smith had two powerful upfield kicks but the Blue Berries took possession of the ball and scored their first goal in the second quarter. Gigi Light and Victoria Gonzales were a powerful defensive force for the Pumpkins in the third and fourth quarters, and Megan Farley had upfield runs. Pumpkin Kitt Durgan made two goal attempts in the third quarter, but the Blue Berries blocked both. The Blue Berries made a powerful goal attempt in the fourth quarter, but Pumpkin goalie Gigi Light made a nice save.

Girls under 10 (APP)

Newport Beach Breakers 6, Corona del Mar 1: Led by striker Tony Holland’s two first-quarter goals and assist, the Breakers (7-1-1) rolled. Holland started quickly, taking a pass from midfielder Natalie Ward and sticking it into the left side of the goal. Katie Duhoux scored minutes later with a strike from the right side. Holland scored again off a rebound and the Breakers never looked back. The second half saw Newport’s Carlee Kapana, Leah Castillo and Brooke Zachry score. Kapana’s goal came off a beautiful pass from Haley Burg, Castillo scored with an assist from Brianna Mahaney and Zachry scored off a nice Sammie Yeager cross. The defense was led by Sophia Jefferies and Libby Knight in the Advanced Play Program game.

Girls under 10

Flaming Hot Cheetos 4, Cherry Bombs 0: Annie La Grandeur got things started off for the Cheetos in the second quarter with a score. Erika Nilsson followed up in the third quarter with her first goal of the season, and Bowie Viloria blasted in another two. Moving the ball down the field was the powerful offensive trio of Megan Mirabal, Amanda Sheppard and Gigi Woodall. On defense, nothing got by Jaci DeFeoas. She played her best game of the season, while Erin O’Connor, Sadie Garner and Rianna Reimers provided some aggressive defensive maneuvers. Shea Horvath and Skylar Gullick both held strong in the goal to anchor the win.

Blue Army Girls 3, Teal Seals 1: Mallory Gyulay scored on a breakaway for the Teal Seals for their only goal. Stellar offensive passing and dribbling were made by Payton Espley-Jones, Megan Keys and Isabella Islava. Goalie Amanda Dupont knocked down 11 shots for the first three quarters, while Emily Wolfe blocked another five shots to keep the ball out of the net. Sisters Kappy Fuller and Seneca Fuller swarmed all over the other team on defense. Emily Vaugh saved two goals as sweeper in the back field. Madiline Bubb, Emily Preshong and Mackenzie Paskerian all shined playing midfield for the Teal Seals in their final regular-season game.

Pink Panthers 3, Blue Angels 3: The Pink Panthers’ defense played a terrific first half, ultimately keeping their opponent scoreless. Julianna Eifler, Isablel Leveque, Emily Halphide, Stephanie Navarro and Hannah Sanders made the opponents take difficult shots while Olivia Jones played aggressively at goalkeeper. The offense made two goals, one by Marina Knutsen and the other by Kate Yasko, who kicked a high shot into the top left corner of the net. The Blue Angels’ Olivia Sever scored two goals in the third quarter to tie the game, assisted by Lily Brandon, Lindzy Konrad and Giulia Chlarson.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Blue Angels’ Kendall Cosenza scored to give her team the lead. But the Pink Panthers offense and defense got back into their first-half stride with great up-field passes and dribbling by Hannah Doolin, Katya Farinsky, Lauren Loucks and Ellie Zielinsky. Second-half goalie Noelle Hubbard assisted the defense with great saves and powerful high kicks into the field. With 30 seconds left, Yasko took a pass and moved toward the opponents’ goal, placing a quality shot that tied the game.

The Blue Angels received great defensive help in the game from Kyira Wicks, Daniella Carrase, Astrea Montgomery and Jordan Goldsberry.

Girls under 8

Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Blue Sea Monkeys: The Red Hot Chili Peppers put the heat on early, as Erika Ellis scored off a goal kick for her first of two goals. Julia Ackerman had several runs at the goal in the second quarter, narrowly missing several shots, while Lauren Henke and Laura Mackenzie played strong defense. Sienna Amoroso, Heather Roberts, and Destry Comp dribbled and passed well, moving the ball through the midfield. Alyssa Wilkens and Rayna Richardson had impressive dribbling runs, with Richardson narrowly missing a goal. Julie Doyle added two more goals for the Peppers, one off an assist from Ellis and the other on a breakaway.

Boys under 8

Irish Bulldogs vs. Blue Bombers: A.J. Roth scored the only goals of the game for the Bulldogs, with one in the first and one in the fourth quarter. The rest of the Irish Bulldogs also played well on offense, just missing some additional scores. Chandler Siemonsma had a great stop and pass to Jack McClintock, who took a shot. Alex Davis also had several shots on goal. The Irish Bulldogs made some spectacular stops and saves on defense. Zach Durham was tough in the goal. Robbie Gehring made a great stop and turned the ball around at midfield. Tom Phillips showed fancy footwork, capturing the ball and sending it back to the Bomber end of the field in one motion. Kamran Siddiqi stopped a Blue Bomber in his tracks, while Fara Lependu also kept the Bombers away from the Bulldog goal.

Girls under 7

Newborn Puppies: Holly Nance, Sydney Palmer, Jordan Golden and Skylar Alexander were excellent at dribbling across the field and positioning to score. Tristen Warmington had a few key plays on offense. Rylee Warmington did well to stop the offense and Miranda McCormick and Saylor Neddleman helped out in the huddle.

Boys under 7

Rippin’ Waves: Brent Valentine and Joey McClurg scored goals for the Waves. Dax Maxwell and Lucas Ovalle showed strong defense, Scott Siecinski and Hayden Schott played impressive offense and Antoine Jackson, Zachary Dethloff and Sean Waterman all passed the ball well as they moved it down the field.

Girls under 5

Teeny Wahine vs. Raindrops: It was a stellar game for Teeny Wahine, with great effort from Elizabeth Aston and Sarah Franco. Jane Bradbury showed speed and hustle to score for Teeny Wahine, and Olivia Belida showed excellent footwork and great offensive moves to score a nice goal. Team Raindrops were worthy adversaries.

Girls under 14

Costa Mesa Code Red 1, Costa Mesa Blew Crew 0: Code Red was strong early, as forwards Amanda Wilson and Sarah Bramlett both had breakaway attempts to score. Then, midfielder Alexa Smith passed the ball to midfielder Brooke Wanbaugh, who scored the game’s first goal. Midfielder Jade Gonzales also had several outside crosses, but Code Red just couldn’t get the ball past Blew Crew’s keeper for a second time. In the second quarter, Blew Crew got two indirect kicks, which were blocked by Code Red’s first-half goalkeeper Jillian Tanner. Code Red midfielders Selina Grant and Vanessa Corona helped the team maintain their footing on the field, sending the ball upfield past the Blew Crew and giving Bramlett and Tanner several scoring opportunities. Code Red defenders Jenny Nava, Adriana Gutierrez-Campos and Sydney Caffey held the line pushing Blew Crew off-sides, deflating any chances of scoring.

Boys under 14 (APP)

Costa Mesa 3, San Clemente 1: Early in the first quarter, Costa Mesa scored their first goal when Jordan Young passed the ball up to Brian Zamudio, who shot the ball into the corner of the net. Teddy Prescott, Joel Allen, Edgar Rodriguez and Christian Rodriguez did a great job defensively. In the second quarter, Costa Mesa’s offense was tenacious and while San Clemente’s goalie was down on the ground, blocking a previous shot, Edgar Rodriguez made the second goal of the game. Midfielder Gilberto Garcia did an incredible job passing the ball up the field and dribbling past his opponents. Also in the second quarter, Richie Bello took a shot on goal. Jovany Castillo, Eddie Saavedra, and Tony Rodriguez assisted defensively by continuing to push the ball up the field. In the third quarter, Costa Mesa made its final goal, when midfielder Eddie Saavedra passed the ball up to Zamudio, who scored. Cory Frino, Prescott and Castillo kept up the defensive line, not allowing any shot attempts in the third quarter. Costa Mesa goalie Edgar Vega did a fantastic job all game.

Girls under 11 (APP) Tustin 2, Costa Mesa 1: Forwards Christina Tuer, Sophie Shambrook, Anna Vivanco and Jackie Tanner pressured Tustin’s net until Tanner found the top corner, giving Mesa the lead at halftime. Defenders Emily Gruber, Marlene Calderon, Claudia Huerta and Amy Heil kept the contest close. A penalty kick for Tustin tied the score. Midfielders Alba Barrios, Emily Grady and Jayme Krohnfeldt consistently moved the ball upfield. Goalkeeper Gracie Dimond had numerous saves. Tustin scored again in the final minutes of the game for the win.

Girls under 8

Hawaiian Twisters vs. Pink Panthers: The Pink Panthers scored twice in the first two minutes into the game, but the Hawaiian Twisters cut the lead in half when Lanai Acuna scored in the first quarter. After another Panthers’ goal, Andie Piovesan scored again to cut the lead to one. Acuna scored three more goals in the third and fourth quarters, giving the Hawaiian Twisters the victory. Also providing great effort were Keelyn Clemence, Jessica Woodruff , Karen Hashemi, Esperanza Martinez and Alexandria Jimenez.

Girls under 10

Maroon Monsoon 1, Shooting Stars 0: The Monsoon won their seventh straight game, with the winning goal being scored by Morgan Duss. Tenacious offensive players Kira Woods, Madeleine Francis and Anneliese Johansson kept the pressure on the Stars with excellent passing and quick footwork. Annalise Gushue, Isabella Solomon and Caitlin Harvey supported the Monsoon at both ends of the field. Defensively, Claire Danner and Katie Chandler provided great strength. Siena Sharf and Juliette Bordier Johnson proved to be unbeatable in goal.

FOOTBALL

Newport-Mesa Jr. All-American

Jr. Pee Wee Division

Newport-Mesa Seahawks 26, Woodcrest Generals 0: Levi Stillman, Jeff Carlyle, Taylor Parks and Kory Cablay all scored in the first half, leading the Seahawks in a first-round playoff win. Stillman rounded out the scoring, with a 21-yard touchdown reception from Chase Forrest to finalize the scoring at 26-0.

Max Meisenheimer, Colby Koste, Bronson Gilbert, Alex Losoya and Taro Doone opened gaping holes all day for the Seahawk running attack. Kurt Walde and Kyle Benter also benefited from the strong blocking from Devin Magana, Luke Burnicle, Victor Valladares, Daemon Kane, Rafael Corvera, Blake Bowie and Troy Reese.

Christian Abbey also played well on offense.

The defense was led by Chris Johnstone, Garrett Farthing, Kenny Drinnon, Cablay, Doone, Stillman, Benter and Walde. Cayman Carter, Todd Jarvis, Dylan Rand-Luby and Adrian Marin made key plays for the defense, which had its sixth shutout of the season.
