Man arrested in fight involving golf club, sword

A Corona del Mar man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of injuring another man during a fight that reportedly involved a golf club and a sword, Newport Beach Sgt. Evan Sailor said. The men may have been fighting over a woman, Sailor said.

Police did not release the name of the 21-year-old suspect because investigators are still trying to determine who started the fight, Sailor said.

Police responded to the fight just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. One of the men suffered a minor cut on his face, Sailor said.

Police are determining if the man arrested was using both the golf club and sword as weapons or if both men used weapons in the scuffle. The injured man was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian where his cut was stitched up, Sailor said. He has not been arrested or cited, Sailor said.
