Crystal Cove Coastal Tree lights up Dec. 2

Crystal Cove will mark the holidays with the 10th annual Coastal Tree lighting ceremony from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2. The public is invited to the event, which kicks off a month-long display.

Located where the sand meets the Pacific Ocean at the Crystal Cove Historic District, the Coastal Tree will be filled with twinkling lights and colorful ornaments. The tree will be lighted at sunset.

In addition to the tree lighting, the Historic District, including the 1920s and 1930s seaside cottages, will be transformed into a seasonal display of holiday lights and giant candy canes. The decorations will reflect the historic character of the district.

The decorated tree has been a landmark for sailors and aviators, as well as divers, and serves as a scenic backdrop for family holiday photos.

Seasonal refreshments, including hot chocolate and cocktails, will be available for purchase on the rear deck of the Beachcomber Cafe. The historic martini flag will be saluted at 5 p.m.

Crystal Cove Alliance, the nonprofit group that was instrumental in helping save the 1920s and 1930s cottages for public use, is co-sponsoring the display, along with the Beachcomber Cafe. The holiday display will continue through Jan. 2.

For more information, call the Beachcomber Cafe at (949) 376-6900 or visit www.crystalcovealliance.org.
