Sandpiper, DUI Fighters take titles

Sandpiper claimed another championship in the City of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept. fall 16” softball program by defeating Team Hobie, 8-4, on the final night of Tuesday League play at Riddle Field.

Sandpiper won its final four games to overtake Team Hobie which had led the league throughout much of the regular season.

Pat Toohey led Sandpiper with two home runs, Micah Stovall had a home run and Jeff Hemighaus singled three times.

Jake Schwaner and Bob Armstrong each singled twice for Team Hobie.

In other Tuesday League action:

Sandpiper 15, Ganahl Lumber 5

Ryan Neptune hit two home runs and also singled and Micah Stovall homered, doubled and singled, as Sandpiper ended Ganahl Lumber’s win streak at three games. Dave Miller homered and singled twice to pace Ganahl Lumber.

Ganahl Lumber 10, Hamstrings 1

Ganahl Lumber hitters racked up 17 hits to ease past the South Laguna Hamstrings.

Dave Miller led the charge with a home run, three singles and four RBI. Bob Bonn doubled twice and singled twice.

For the Hamstrings, Vick Ferreir and Mike Wallace each singled three times.

Hamstrings 15, Viper Minion 7

A 20-hit attack led to victory for the Hamstrings who finished league play in third-place.

Leadoff batter Joel Harris had four doubles and five RBI and Mike Wallace homered, singled three times and collected four RBI.

Kai Bond hit two home runs to account for five runs for Viper Minion.

Team Hobie 2, C-Dawgs 1

A solo home run by Richard Collins and sacrifice RBI by Billy Cregger lifted Team Hobie to the win and second-place in the standings.

Jake Schwaner singled and scored for Team Hobie.

Joe Jones and Frank Ranieri each had a double for the C-Dawgs.

Viper Minion 11, C-Dawgs 3

Aidan Leedom limited the C-Dawgs to just five hits, Griffin Cogorjo hit three home runs and Kai Bond had a homer and two singles to lead Viper Minion.

Frank Ranieri smashed a three-run home run and singled for the winless C-Dawgs.

Wednesday League

DUI Fighters 11, Artists 6

The DUI Fighters became Wednesday League champs by winning two games in the final week of play, including this one over the season-long league leader Artists.

Mica Brown slammed three home runs, good for five RBI, to lift the Fighters.

Ryan Indocino hit a solo homer and single and Jeff Tankersley singled twice and drove in three runs for the Artistts.

DUI Fighters 1, Drilco 0

Sean Bill hit a solo home run and Dave McCollum scattered five singles as the Fighters edged Drilco which received a two-hit effort from pitcher Trevor Lyle.

Drilco 17, 47’s 3

Jimmy Bobst and Leif Francis each hit a home run and double as Drilco pounded out 18 hits to defeat the 47’s.

Robert Caron and Trevor Lyle each had three singles and Gerrard Caron tripled and singled for Drilco.

Trigg Garner homered and doubled for the 47’s.

Compound Fractures 12, Red Rum 7

By defeating Red Rum, Compound Fractures swept through the second-round of league play after going 0-5 in the first round.

Steve Hurst drove in four runs behind a home run and single and Dave Strong and Russ Swartz each had three RBI for Compound Fractures.

Josh Farra doubled and singled for Red Rum.
