NEWPORT BEACH — Kyle Caldwell scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Sailors to their second straight pool-play victory at the Bill Reynolds Classic at Newport Harbor High.

Newport Harbor (2-1) will play today at 6:30 p.m. against Hugh Boyd from Vancouver, British Columbia.

WESTMINSTER — Blake Pinto scored a game-high 22 points, but Estancia fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a La Quinta tournament consolation bracket game Thursday.

Troy McClanahan scored 12 points — all on three-pointers — for the Eagles (2-5). Estancia plays in another consolation bracket game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Santa Ana Valley, at La Quinta High.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The Sea Kings won their final pool-play game at the Fountain Valley tournament behind 15 points from senior guard Allie Duernberger.

Susan Moheimani had eight points and Ashley Kirby added six for CdM (3-2), which outscored the hosts, 17-3, in the crucial third quarter.

The Sea Kings play in the tournament’s third-place game on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fountain Valley High.

Five Costa Mesa players — three starters — were benched for disciplinary reasons, Costa Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. They are expected to play today when the Mustangs take on Beckman at 2 p.m. at Mater Dei High.

COSTA MESA — Avery Williams and Stacy McDaniels each scored in the first half to lead the Eagles to the nonleague win over the visiting Seahawks Thursday.

Gleason assisted on Williams’ goal and McDaniels connected unassisted. Goalie Madison Urtusuastegui collected two saves for Estancia.

The Eagles (3-3-1) resume action Tuesday, when they play at Tesoro.

St. Joseph’s 5, Newport Harbor 3

LAKEWOOD — The Sailors were tied 2-2 at halftime but fell behind late in their nonleague game Thursday at St. Joseph’s.

Gillan Hogan, Christina O’Tousa and Kayla Henrie scored for Newport Harbor (3-2).

The Sailors play host to San Clemente Tuesday.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 14, Los Amigos 11

COSTA MESA — Senior Melissa Buchmann scored eight goals to lead the Eagles in a nonleague game Thursday.

Meagan Kunert and Chelsea Leon each scored twice for Estancia (5-2), which was down at halftime but outscored the Lobos, 10-5, in the second half.

Estancia plays host to La Quinta today.
