Paularino Elementary to get garden support

Paularino Elementary School in Costa Mesa was among 86 California schools selected last month to participate in the Orchard Supply Hardware School Gardens Program. The program provides funds and curriculum packets to help schools develop gardens.

Each school in the program receives up to $1,000 in supplies, plants, tools and other materials from Orchard, a home improvement retailer headquartered in San Jose.

Nearly 300 schools applied for the grants this year.

In September, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill appropriating $15 million for school garden programs.

Paularino was one of four Orange County schools to receive the grant. In doing so, it joins Peterson Elementary School in Huntington Beach, Las Positas Elementary School in La Habra and Marian Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel.
