COSTA MESA — Talhia Nunez scored two minutes into the sudden-death overtime on a six-on-five to lead the Mustangs to the nonleague win Monday.

Nunez scored three goals. Shyra Crandall, who had 10 steals, scored once, as did Ashley Rendon and Patricia Marty.

Goalie Brittany Mucha stopped 11 shots for Costa Mesa (2-5), which will play at Saddleback on Thursday.

CORONA DEL MAR — After letting the Monarchs jump out to three-goal lead in the first half, Brian Burke helped the Sea Kings’ make things close, assisting on a goal and converting a penalty kick in the second half in CdM’s nonleague loss Monday.

Burke assisted on Jaffer Kattan’s goal in the 50th minute. Twelve minutes later, when Paolo Iaccarino was fouled in the box by a Mater Dei player, Burke made good on the penalty shot.

Goalkeeper Aman Sahni recorded eight saves for Corona del Mar (1-5), which plays at El Toro at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

CERRITOS — Larry Puente scored a game-high 22 points, but the Mustangs lost for the first time this season, falling in the first round at the North Orange County Championships at Gahr High.

Tommy Duong hit three three-pointers to finish with nine points for Costa Mesa (4-1).
