UCI SIGNS TWO

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team has received national letters of intent from Stephen Stege of Los Gatos High and Gautam Vaidyananthan of University High to attend and compete in men’s tennis at UCI, Anteaters Coach Trevor Kronemann said.

Stege, a senior at Los Gatos High in Los Gatos, is a top-50 national recruit. Stege is ranked No. 12 among recruits from California and is listed as a five-star recruit on tennisrecruiting.net.

“Stephen is the first piece of the puzzle to propel UCI tennis back on to the national scene,” Kronemann said. “His strong work ethic and grittiness is something that is a necessity in a champion. He reminds me of a former collegiate and pro great Richy Renenberg. The coaching staff expects big things from Stephen in his quest as an Anteater. He will be an immediate impact to our squad.”

Vaidyananthan, a senior from University High in Irvine, is ranked as the 28th best recruit in California. He is listed as a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net.

“Gautam is going to surprise a lot of people as he makes his way through the next year and his career at UCI,” Kronemann said. “He has all of tools to become an immediate impact in the line-up. He works hard both academically and athletically by having a no-holds-bar approach to everything he does.”

“He academically received a perfect score on the math portion of his SAT and already brings many college credits along with him to UCI.”
