A surprising run to the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division championship game came to a halt Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson for the Edison High football team, which lost, 30-20, to Orange Lutheran.

Edison, co-champion of the Sunset League, got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover against the talented Lancers (13-1), who will move on to play Saturday for a CIF state championship.

The Chargers (11-3) trailed 14-0 at the half and found themselves down, 23-0, in the third quarter before getting on the scoreboard.

Junior Nick Crissman threw touchdown passes to Justin Venus, Dominique Vinson and Hunter White for the Chargers.

Edison had defeated Crespi, Servite and Santa Margarita to earn a spot in Saturday’s final. The loss to Orange Lutheran snapped a six-game winning streak.

“The kids were down at halftime, but I told them they weren’t out of this game,” Edison Coach Dave White said. “We needed to play a great game to beat Orange Lutheran, and we didn’t.

“But our kids never gave up. They played tough and fought to the end. That’s Edison football. I’m proud of this team.”
