No more city council meetings till January

Newport Beach and Costa Mesa have no more scheduled city council or planning commission meetings until January. The councils and commissions typically only meet once in December because of the holidays.

Newport Beach City Hall also closes at noon Friday, and city halls in both cities will be closed Dec. 25.

Free flu shots available in Costa Mesa

Free flu shots are now available to adults and children 6 months and older in Costa Mesa.

The California Department of Health Services expanded eligibility for public health programs that provide the vaccine against influenza. Through programs sponsored by the Orange County Health Care Agency, flu shots are available while supplies last at public health clinics throughout Orange County.

Vaccines are available in Costa Mesa on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon at 2845 E. Mesa Verde Drive.

Council seeks planning, parks commissioners

The Costa Mesa City Council is seeking residents who wish to serve on the planning commission or the parks and recreation commission.

The planning commission has the power to act upon or make recommendations to the City Council on the regulation of growth, development and city beautification, regarding both public and private projects.

The parks and recreation commission considers or acts upon programs, fees, issues and studies related to parks and recreation facilities, as well as making recommendations to the council.

Those who wish to apply are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and a brief resume illustrating their expertise. Send it to Costa Mesa City Council, City Hall, P.O. Box 1200, Costa Mesa, CA 92628-1200. Or deliver it in person to City Hall at 77 Fair Drive, by Dec. 27.

Applications are not private and may be disclosed to the public.
