CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP:Smith to lead Patriots Day Parade

The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade Assn. has announced honorees for the March 3 parade. The parade theme is “Proudly We Hail.”

Joan Irvine Smith will be Grand Marshal; Lawrence A. Smith, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, will be Honored Patriot.

Bree Burgess Rosen will be honored as Citizen of the Year, and Laguna Beach High seniors Mary Elizabeth Trout and Marshall Thomas are the year’s Junior Citizens.

“Parade honorees will be presented at an Honorees’ Brunch on Sunday, February 4, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Tivoli Terrace, Festival of Arts Grounds.

Conservancy meets Jan. 8 with Mayor Iseman

Mayor Toni Iseman will be the special guest speaker at the Laguna Canyon Conservancy’s first meeting of the new year, Monday, Jan. 8.

There may be some exciting news about the long-sought Village Entrance project, dinner organizers say.

Conservancy dinner meetings are held at Tivoli Terrace on the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd., and are open to the public. No-host bar opens at 6 p.m., dinner is served around 6:40 p.m., and the program will follow dessert.

Dinner tickets are $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers and may be paid at the door with prior reservations. Membership is $10 per person, per calendar year.

The Conservancy is accepting new memberships and renewals, which will be good through Dec. 31, 2007.

Reservations should be made by calling Ed Drollinger by Jan. 6 at (949) 494-6465. Leave your name, phone number and number of reservations. Please spell your name and the names of others on your list, for name tags.

Caring for aged loved ones

Laguna Presbyterian Church will host a support group for those caring for aged family members and loved ones on the first Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. in the church parlor.

The Parlor of Laguna Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of the rose garden on Second Avenue, near Forest Avenue. Anyone who is caring for (or caring about) an older adult is welcome.

Seniors plan general meeting Jan. 8

Laguna Beach Seniors, Inc. will hold a general meeting Monday, Jan. 8, featuring a special announcement by Councilwoman Elizabeth Pearson-Schneider.

In addition, the 2007 Board of Directors will be installed into office and comments will be taken about how the organization should be run.

The membership meeting is open to the community at the Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St. Entertainment and refreshments will be offered.

Garden Club to discuss succulents

The Laguna Beach Garden Club will present designer Joan Wilson, of “Living Couture” in Laguna Niguel, at the club’s monthly meeting on Friday, Jan. 12.

Wilson’s presentation will focus on designer tabletop arrangements using succulent plants. With their infinite textures, heights and colors, succulents are “architectural” plants that come from all over the world.

Wilson began packing succulent plants together in bouquets for the annual Philharmonic House of Design showcase two years ago.

Now she makes house calls to create succulent centerpieces for parties and potted outdoor gardens for patios and window boxes.

The club’s social gathering starts at 9:30 a.m., with the program at 10 a.m.

The meeting will take place atNeighborhood Congregational Church, on the corner of St. Anne’s Drive and Glenneyre Street.
